Great photos – I lived in Mombasa from 1949 / 1961.
My mother, Bessie Hobson was Headmistress for many years at the Mombasa Kindergarden Schoool – she was know to all as Auntie Hobson.
My dad, Jack Hobson was a Director of Kenya Casements, and a keen member of the Yacht Club.
I remember going to the Little Theatre Club many times and enjoying the productions. Does it still put on shows?
The Little theatre club still puts up some shows. I think they are just about to renovate the club house. It is one of my more favourite joints in Mombasa.

Steve,
Interesting, I was born in Mombasa in 1947 at the then old Pandya Memorial Clinicl which then turned into THE LITTLE THEATRE CLUB…… and my elder brother (first name: Shrish – now in Edgware, England)) was the general mgr at a sister company of Kenya Casements (owned by the Patel brothers – Chimanbhai and Chandubhai Patel). We grew up in Mombasa Housing Society (near the Mombasa Sports Club), about 1000 ft from the theatre.
I left for college in 1965. Returned in 1969 and worked as a teacher in Nyeri til 1971.
omg…I dont know who you are but u have made me cry…i love all the photos…i left msa 6 years ago but this photos just brot so many memories..thnks for all the updates!!
Isn’t the internet a miracle! I found a gem in Beautiful Mombasa – grate job.
Cildhood memories are for all to cherished and mine were in Mombasa – born there at the clinic which is now the Little Theatre Club. It is all so familiar and crystal clear even after 40+ years. The tusks – one of my elder btorhe lived in the bldg so clos to the tusks that you could virtually tocuh them, not to say that I have touched them a million times during my walks to school.
Then the famous Alidina Visram High School – remember building the steps down the cliff in the back of the school to the beach and going swimming around the corenr and at ENglish point……on an on.
have just returned from mombasa my first visit in 40 years, a wonderful holiday. visited the little theatre club, it was exactly as I remembered it.
I hope it has a vibrant future.
Left 40 years ago as well, unfortunately haven’t been back….yet. The ‘pull’ remains strong and shall never weaken. LTC was second home for 5 years. Love this site.

Hi Said,
Unfortunately, not. I left Mombasa some 40 years back after finishing high school at Alidina Visram. Sorry, but thanks for asking.
